Understanding Salary Ranges / Pay Scales

All state job advertisements require disclosing the salary range or pay scales. When you search for jobs, you will see the pay scales listed, but today, I’ll show you how to find a comprehensive list of all classifications within the State and their pay ranges.

HOW TO FIND SALARY RANGES / PAY SCALES

  • Click on this link here to view CalHR’s page on pay scales.
  • You can find the most updated pay scales under Salaries of Civil Service Classifications –> Alphabetic Listing.
  • If you’re unsure what classification you’re looking for, check out this post here on the difference between working titles and classification titles.

ALTENATE RANGES

Now once you’ve located the classification, you will see a letter underneath it, which indicates the alternate range. Alternate ranges are usually A, B, C, D, L, M, N and are basically a subgroup you will fall under within that classification based on which criteria you meet and the higher your range, typically the more pay you get.

  • A, B, C, D are often tied to experience, education or license. If you meet the requirements, you will be placed in that range and start at the minimum of that range.
  • Find the ARC Crit number for that classification, then read the alternate range criteria here (under 11- Alternate Ranges).
  • L, M and N are rare. They’re typically for certain excluded Departments only, like control agencies: CalHR, SCO, DOF, etc.

  7. Thanks for the useful information on credit repair on this amazing blog. The things i would advice people will be to give up the particular mentality that they may buy at this point and pay out later. As a society many of us tend to make this happen for many things. This includes vacation trips, furniture, as well as items we’d like. However, you need to separate a person’s wants from all the needs. If you are working to fix your credit score actually you need some trade-offs. For example you possibly can shop online to economize or you can click on second hand shops instead of pricey department stores for clothing.
